Our History
Dunston St Nicholas Lodge No.9712 was consecrated on 1st April 2000. The lodge is one of five Daylight Lodges in the Province of Durham, meeting in the morning to accommodate members’ work and family commitments.
What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest fraternal organisations. In plain terms, it is a supportive community where members seek to be better people and contribute positively to society.

The Three Degrees (in brief)
Entered Apprentice
A first step that introduces Freemasonry’s core principles, including personal integrity and consideration for others.
Fellowcraft
A stage of development focusing on learning, improvement, and applying values in daily life.
Master Mason
The third degree builds on earlier lessons and encourages members to live with purpose, responsibility and service to others.

Emulation Ritual
Our lodge uses Emulation Ritual, one of the best-known and widely practised forms of Craft working in England. Emulation is valued for its clear structure, traditional wording, and emphasis on accurate delivery and good floor work.
Freemasons Hall, Dunston
We meet at Freemasons Hall, Holmside Avenue, Dunston, Tyne & Wear, NE11 9TJ. The hall is easy to reach from Gateshead and surrounding areas, and has a substantial, tarmacked car park.
Accessibility: wheelchair access throughout, hearing loop, lift to the upper floor, accessible parking, and accessible toilets.
